SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Long-time Chargers announcer Hank Bauer is in hot water over anti-Semitic comments he recently made. He told a joke on the radio Sunday that many say is not a laughing matter.
Bauer issued this apology on his Facebook page Tuesday:
"I made a hurtful insinuation that I regret and I would like to express how sorry I am. My poor choice of words were unfortunately open for negative interpretation, please know it was never my intention to offend any of my listeners. I hope you accept my apology."
Bauer's employer KIOZ says they "take matters of this nature very seriously. The remarks were insensitive, and we apologize to those who were offended."
KIOZ further says they have taken disciplinary action.
The Chargers say they know Bauer had no ill-will behind the remarks, but agree the comments were inappropriate. They say per Clear Channel, he will not be broadcasting Thursday night's game.
