CHULA VISTA (NEWS 8) – After 35-years in business, the Chula Vista RV Resort will be shutting its doors on February 1, 2019.
The RV resort sent out a notice to customers this week informing them the park will close and anyone with reservations after February 2019, will be issued a full refund.
Cathy Butler said she has come to the RV resort for years. “Everybody is sad it is going to be gone. We are definitely going to miss this place. We come down here once a year with our group. We potluck, we swim, we play games.”
The park will be closing to make way for the new billion dollar Bayfront project that was approved by the Chula Vista City Council and the Port of San Diego. The project will include a 1,600 room hotel, a 275,000-square-foot convention center, two parks and a fire station.
The makeover has been in the works for several years.
“I hope they bring in industry that will help the community of Chula Vista financially, but I also hope they take into consideration [that] people have worked here for many, many years,” said Butler.
Another RV park is expected to be build a few blocks away by the group Sun Communities Inc.; however, some fear it just won’t be the same.
News 8 reached out to the resort's management, but they declined to comment.
