CHULA VISTA (CNS) - Authorities reached out to the public Wednesday in an effort to determine if a transient accused of sexually assaulting a teenage boy he befriended may have victimized any other minors.

Luiz Roberto Raymundo, 61, was jailed last week for allegedly molesting the 16-year-old repeatedly after meeting him during informal youth soccer lessons the suspect gave in various South Bay locales, Chula Vista police Capt. Gary Wedge said.

After receiving a referral from county Child Protective Services personnel, detectives interviewed the teen and determined that he had allegedly been sexually assaulted several times over a six-month period last year, according to Wedge.

The victim told police he had been among groups of youth soccer players the suspect coached every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

"Raymundo told the victim he had connections and (that) with additional, private lessons could prepare him for a professional soccer career in Brazil," Wedge said.

Raymundo, who was living in a motor home behind behind the 600 block of Anita Street in Chula Vista, then convinced the boy to spend several Friday nights with him and allegedly used those opportunities to molest him.

On April 12, police arrested Raymundo and searched his vehicle.

"Based on evidence found ... as well as on information provided by the victim, police believe other juveniles may have been victimized, as well," the captain said.

Raymundo, who is being held in county jail without bail, currently faces four child molestation charges. His next court hearing is scheduled for Friday morning.

Anyone with additional information about the suspect was asked to call Detective Jeff Hobson at (619) 691-5182.
