IT jobs are in demand and the Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that through the year 2024,
• Computer Systems Analysts jobs are expected to grow by 21% (much faster than average)1
• Information Systems Analysts positions are expected to grow by 18% (much faster than average)2
• Software Developers jobs are expected to grow by 17% (much faster than average)3
Yet, by the time many students graduate from college, taking an additional test is the last thing on their mind. What are the benefits of taking a certification test even when you have earned a degree? Possessing a certification confirms your understanding of industry and classroom knowledge and can positively impact career opportunities and salary. For military veterans, the good news is that they may be eligible for GI Bill reimbursement for some certification programs, such as computer network engineer.4 Coleman University students and members of the Coleman Alumni Professional Society (CAPS) are eligible for discounted voucher rates.
Coleman University offers some of the most desirable certifications in the IT industry at its test center, located on the campus at 8888 Balboa Avenue, San Diego, California, and close to three major north-south highways: I-15, CA-163 and I-805. We welcome testing candidates from California, surrounding states and Mexico.
Our certification exams include:
CompTIA A+, an entry-level certification that validates understanding of the most common hardware and software technologies in business.
CompTIA Network+, a certification that means you have demonstrated the essential knowledge and skills needed to confidently design, configure, manage and troubleshoot wired and wireless networks.
The CompTIA Security+, a certification considered the benchmark for best practices in IT security. This certification contains the necessary principles for network security and risk management.
Microsoft Certification exams can also be taken at the test center. Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA), Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) and Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer (MCSD) are certifications that demonstrate students have the skills needed for a career in information technology. A Microsoft Specialist certification test validates a student’s knowledge and skills in a specific area of technology, such as Visual Studio, Microsoft Azure, Virtualization and Microsoft Project.
The Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Routing and Switching certification can be obtained upon successful completion of Coleman University’s Cisco Academy. This 40-week program includes four classes: Introduction to Networks, Routers and Routing Basics, Switching Basics and Intermediate Routing, and WAN Technologies. All classes are held on the Coleman campus and taught by experienced faculty. No prior knowledge of Cisco routers and switches is required.
Additional certifications to be earned through our vendor partners include Citrix, VMware, Oracle, CAPM, APICS, IBM, CTEL/CLAD, CBEST, CSET, Teradata, and McAfee. Coleman also provides testing for College Level Examination Program (CLEP) and DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST). For all other certification exams offered, visit Pearson VUE.
The test center hours are Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.; and, Saturday, 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. Coleman provides a clean, safe and comfortable testing environment with plenty of free parking and food available for purchase Monday through Thursday. The center holds evening and Saturday hours in order to accommodate working candidates, but is subject to early closing once all appointments have been completed for the day.
Additional requirements for exam day, including mandatory items to be brought to the exam, are listed on our website. For more information, contact Coleman University at (858) 966-3970 or email us at certs@coleman.edu.
