San Diego nonprofit opens food pantry to flood victims

Feeding San Diego offers food assistance to flood victims or anyone in need of help at Faith Chapel Community Church on the first Monday of every month.

SAN DIEGO — Feeding San Diego hosted a free, drive-through food distribution Monday to help those impacted by the floods.

The nonprofit offers food assistance at Faith Chapel Community Church in Spring Valley on the first Monday of every month. Recent flood victims, and anyone in need of food assistance, can drive up and receive 40 pounds of ready-to-eat food and produce. The pantry food distribution is open to about 750 households.

WHO:  Feeding San Diego, the county’s leading hunger-relief and food rescue organization. 

WHAT: Large-scale, drive-through food distribution for about 750 households. Attendees will receive 40 pounds of ready-to-eat food and fresh produce.

WHEN: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the first Monday of every month

“Emergency response is engrained in Feeding San Diego’s DNA. It’s how our organization got started back in 2007, by providing food to those displaced by the fires that year,” said Bob Kamensky, interim CEO of Feeding San Diego. “It’s of critical importance to our organization to step up and show up for our neighbors who continue to be impacted by these ongoing storms. Food is a necessity, and we are here to provide it to our community.”
