CHULA VISTA, Calif. — The Loma Verde Community Center in Chula Vista received a makeover after it was demolished in 2021.
“We’ve rebuilt the entire center and it's definitely world class now,” Chula Vista Mayor John McCann said.
The facility went under construction to make some upgrades and offer the Chula Vista neighborhood new amenities.
“We have four kids so bringing all of them to you know get their energy out and just have fun with other kids in the community I think it's a good thing to have,” Loma Verde Community Center Guest, Leah Cardoza said.
The project cost about 21 million dollars, some of the new features include a new multi-purpose gymnasium, dance, crafts, fitness and game rooms.
“The children can have a lot of activities or even the grown up too! I saw a lot of classes for grownups so the community to get together and spend quality time and in a positive way,” Chula Vista Resident Nita Mason said.
The Loma Verde Community Center includes recreational and aquatics facilities.
“This way we don't have to travel so far to have a good time we’re right where we were at home,” Chula Vista Resident Lorena Lopez said.
The center has been opened for a couple months but celebrated its grand re-opening this weekend. The city unveiled its new community pools and splash pads.
“We are investing in our older communities to make sure that they have the infrastructure that everybody else does,” McCann said.
