New affordable housing project in San Ysidro breaks ground

The 100-unit property will feature new 2 and 3-bedroom apartments for low-income families.

SAN DIEGO — Mayor Gloria and local leaders joined Mirka Investments as well as community members to celebrate the groundbreaking ceremony for Vista Lane, a new apartment project in San Ysidro.

This $47.4 million project features 100 units designed as affordable housing for low-income families. There will also be 18 units set aside for individuals with developmental disabilities, another 10 units will be ADA-compliant, nine handicapped-accessible units, and four units set aside for those with hearing or visual impairments.

In a press release, Mirka Investment said that this project will, "offer rents that range from around $1,420 a month for a two-bedroom apartment to approximately $2,340 a month for or three-bedroom apartment."

Vista Lane is located right next to public transit stations with a bus station and light rail station within walking distance.

The property will also include a large community area, a common room, and a playground. Phase one of this project was started last year and phase two has already broken ground.

This project benefited from the Permit Now Program, designed to help expedite construction through a streamlined permitting process.
