SAN DIEGO — Humberto Cruz is an illustrator and graphic designer, who's had a love for art since he was a child. About five years ago, he turned his biggest passion into a full time job with the help of social media.
“It's fun and it's like therapy,” Cruz said.
Inspired by Mexico's vibrant colors and American pop culture, Humberto has created many pieces of art not only capturing the eyes of his growing fanbase but artists in the music industry. Cruz’s work has been showcased in the billboards in Times Square and merchandise.
Humberto is the artist behind Colombian singer Karol G's 'Mañana Sera Bonito,' album which translates to Tomorrow will be Beautiful.
“I always wanted to work on an album cover that was my goal and I thought it was not going to happen because you know I'm getting old and it finally… you know finally got that DM that you know made my dream come true,” Cruz said.
Its a dream come true but his success doesn't stop there, Humberto got the opportunity to design Harry Styles’ nail polish line which gave him the chance to create his own characters.
“I created all of this packaging for his brand and it was a lot of fun,” Cruz said.
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Humberto has partnered with Verizon for their “Textspañol” campaign. Cruz created unique animated stickers for the community to use.
“As Latinos we don't have that many options in Spanish when we want to send an emoji in Spanish or a sticker,” Cruz said.
