San Diego Pride wraps up after a week of celebrations

SAN DIEGO — San Diego Pride wrapped up after a packed week of celebrations highlighting the LGBTQ community.

San Diego Pride is one of the largest pride celebrations in the United States and the 2024 Pride Parade did not disappoint. This year’s theme was Making History Now.

After Saturday's march through Hillcrest, tens of thousands of people attended the festival at Balboa Park with food, drinks, concerts and so much more.

"It has been amazing. It's just been an opportunity for me to meet a bunch of people, see all the sights this has been really amazing," said attendee Galen.

The festival was one big party with more than 100 performers taking stage over the weekend.

"It's amazing so beautiful here," Kaia said.

Kaia and Dasha recently moved here Saturday they got to see the pride parade in Hillcrest for the first time.

"It was cool I couldn't believe it was so long, so many cars, so many hours," Kaia said.

They say Pride has given them a warm welcome to San Diego.

"In a bigger city you can get lost if you don't have a sense of community and what we've noticed is this whole area has an amazing sense of togetherness and loving to be outside together. It has been nice," Dasha said.

A sense of togetherness is exactly what pride is all about.

"I think a lot of people don't realize what community means. It just means allies and people who feel comfortable being who they are, dressing the way they want to dress and celebrating together," Carlin said.

Like last year, CBS 8 is a proud sponsor of the San Diego Pride Parade and this year televised the parade in its entirety on The CW San Diego. This is the first year that the parade was seen on TV.
