Summer Food Drive | Help feed a neighbor experiencing food insecurity

From now until August 20, you can drop off any nonperishable and unopened food item at all 75 local Albertsons, Vons and Pavillions.

SAN DIEGO — Hunger doesn’t take a break when school is out for the summer. That’s why CBS 8 is teaming up with The Jacobs and Cushman San Diego Food Bank for the 14th annual Summer Food Drive.

From now until August 20, you can drop off any nonperishable and unopened food item at all 75 local Albertsons, Vons and Pavillions. Just look for the Food Bank’s iconic red donation barrels. Those donated items will go toward feeding kids and families in San Diego who are experiencing nutrition insecurity.

Not sure what items to donate? The most needed items include canned meats, canned fish, canned vegetables, canned fruit, canned soups and stews, peanut butter, cereal, and oatmeal.

For every $1 donated, the Food Bank can provide enough food to a neighbor experiencing food insecurity for two meals.

Last year, the Food Bank distributed 44 million pounds of food to local families and serves 400,000 people per month in San Diego County.
