SAN DIEGO — The Susan G. Komen San Diego 3-Day event concluded Sunday, November 17 with hundreds of walkers completing their journey and raising $6.4 million for breast cancer research and support.
This year's event, which CBS 8 proudly partners with, saw an increase in funds raised compared to the previous year.
The three-day event began on Friday at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, with participants walking a total of 60 miles. This year, organizers introduced a new option, allowing one-day and two-day walkers to join the cause.
The walk attracted participants, including survivors, family members of those affected and individuals committed to the cause.
"I had breast cancer in fact a year ago yesterday, I had surgery," said Julie Savage, a breast cancer survivor.
"I walk for everyone," said Ken Williams, a long-time supporter. "My mom's a survivor. This is my 44th or 45th event,"
The route took walkers through scenic areas of San Diego, including La Jolla, Mission Hills and Balboa Park, passing 20 local landmarks before concluding at Waterfront Park along the Embarcadero. Participants ranged in age from 16 to 88 years old, many donning the signature pink to show their support.
Nicole Becker from Susan G. Komen called the event a success, not only because of the money raised but also because of the event's impact.
"Whenever you're here, you're in this bubble with people who understand what you're going through, who you can relate your stories to, who you can rely on, laugh with and cry with," Becker said. "It's really therapeutic for so many people."

2023 Event Recap:
The Susan G Komen 3-Day brought hundreds of people to San Diego and helped raise millions of dollars to end breast cancer. Participants walked 20 miles a day for three days completing their 60-mile journey Sunday at Waterfront Park.
It was a sea of pink in San Diego as 1,500 people walked in the Susan G Komen 3-Day.
"The energy out here is just incredible. It's the reason I just keep coming back," said Jeanie from New York.
Jeanie met Lucile at a breast cancer walk years ago. Now they walk the 3-day together for loved ones they've lost to breast cancer.
"I walked for my twin sister," said Lucile, who lives in Carlsbad.
Each step is a story and journey together.
"A team of six walkers but a support squad of like 50 at this point," said Megan.
Megan and her family supported each other through each mile.
"This is my sister and this is my brother. We are walking for my mom who passed away in April. She is our reason for sticking together," Megan said.
It's that inspiration and strength that keeps everyone going.
CBS 8 caught up with another group of women at the finish line. Their beloved friend Anita was on Facetime when we talked to them. She's a breast cancer survivor but is now fighting once again.
"She was doing well until last week and we found out it metastasized," said her friend.
They're out here for Anita and others still in the battle. They walk for the survivors and in the hopes fundraising and research will prevent any more lives lost to breast cancer.
"We love you. We miss you mom," Megan said.
Combined this 3-day raised $5.3 million dollars to help breast cancer research and support people fighting breast cancer.
