SAN DIEGO (CNS) - About 2,000 people are expected to take advantage of the 27th annual Community Christmas Dinner by The Salvation Army at Golden Hall Saturday.
About 400 volunteers are expected to serve the meals, and Santa Claus will be on hand ready to hand out presents to around 1,000 children.
"Seeing the joy on the children's faces is priceless," said Ken Perine of The Salvation Army. "We want these families to know that we're here to support them in any way we can."
The meal will include a traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings.
The cooking, by chef Joe Olmos and his staff, begins at 1 a.m. at The Salvation Army's central kitchen. The food is transported to Golden Hall around 10 a.m.
