POTRERO (CNS) - A vehicle somehow sparked a brush fire that blackened about 25 acres Sunday near Barrett Lake in East County, and caused major delays on Highway 94 between Dulzura and Tecate, authorities said.
The fire was reported about 9:45 a.m. in the vicinity of Barrett Lakes Road at state Route 94, in rugged country east of Dulzura and west of Potrero, according to Cal Fire. By late afternoon fire crews had the blaze about 70 percent contained.
Cal Fire officials said no structures were threatened.
Highway 94 was closed for some time from Otay Lakes Road to the Tecate junction, at state Route 188. But by afternoon, one lane was reopened, although motorists were advised of long delays for traffic control on the narrow, two- lane road, according to the CHP.
