SANTA CLARITA (CNS) - Residents evacuated from 700 homes due to the 800 acre Sage Fire near Santa Clarita have been allowed to go home, authorities said.
The evacuations were lifted at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, said Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Gustavo Medina. The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
Los Angeles County firefighters were dispatched at 12:05 p.m. Saturday to the area of The Old Road and Calgrove Boulevard, according to a county fire dispatcher.
Firefighters had the blaze 15 percent contained, Medina told City News Service. Backfires helped firefighters move any remaining flames away from homes. Night water drops by helicopters were cancelled.
One inmate firefighter suffered a minor injury, Medina said. Another firefighter was being treated for a heat-related injury.
More than 200 firefighters were on the scene, including some from the city of Los Angeles, U.S. Forest Service and Orange County Fire Authority. Ten aircraft dropped water and fire retardant during the day, Medina said.
The forced evacuation affected roughly 2,000 people in the area of Stevenson Ranch, Deputy Lisa Jansen of the Sheriff's Information Bureau said.
That included Southern Oaks Drive between Greenbriar Drive and Meadow Lane, Autumn Place, Shady Glen Court and Magnolia Lane, authorities said.
