Police investigating car vandalism spree

Police Tuesday are searching for vandals who went around smashing car windows in Scripps Ranch.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Police Tuesday are searching for vandals who went around smashing car windows in Scripps Ranch overnight.

It started Monday night and spanned several blocks between Forest View Lane and Timberlake Drive.

A witness reported hearing glass break, and seeing a young man hanging out of a passing SUV with a baseball bat or a stick.

At last count, five cars had their windows smashed.

Phil Hadley lives near where a Jeep Liberty's driver's side window was smashed in, and is now covered in plastic.

"We got our cars off the street. That is a matter of concern that hasn't happened here. We wanted to remove all temptation," Hadley said.

Police won't say if they have any leads. Three reports have been filed with authorities, and they expect more.

Neighbors tell CBS News 8 they've been hit before in Scripps Ranch, and it turned out to be kids up to no good.

Anyone with information is asked to call San Diego police.

"It's just a senseless act of vandalism," an officer said.
