SAN DIEGO — San Diego police are searching for the person responsible for partially slashing the scalp from a woman's skull with a sword in City Heights early Tuesday morning.
Dispatchers with 911 began to receive calls around 1:30 a.m. from several people who reported a woman was injured, and waiting in the parking lot of a Starbucks located in the 3800 block of Fairmount Avenue in City Heights.
Authorities learned that the 63-year-old woman was attacked by a man with a sword at Jeremy Henwood Park in the 4400 block of Wightman Avenue, according to Lieutenant Adam Sharki, San Diego Police Department's Public Information Officer.
Lt. Sharki said the attack appeared to be random and unprovoked.
The injured woman sustained multiple injuries, including a portion of her skin being severed from her skull.
Video shared from 1904 News showed first responders treating the victim in an ambulance before she was transported to an area hospital in unknown condition.
San Diego police are searching for a suspect described as a black male, approximately 35 years old, with a tall and thin build wearing jeans, and carrying a sword.
