Suspects arrested after multi-county crime spree across San Diego

A man and woman are under arrest after shooting a person in Imperial Beach, robbing a smoke shop at gunpoint, and carjacking several people, according to SDPD.

SAN DIEGO — A man and woman were in custody Wednesday night in connection to a series of crimes across multiple counties.

The two were arrested after shooting a person in Imperial Beach, robbing a smoke shop at gunpoint, carjacking several people, and causing a multi-car crash on a freeway, according to San Diego police.

The San Diego Sheriff's Department was called to the 1100 block of Louden Lane in Imperial Beach around 5:16 p.m. following reports of a shooting.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they found a person, who has yet to be identified, suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital in an unknown condition for treatment.

The suspects fled the scene in Imperial Beach and were later spotted in the jurisdiction of the San Diego Police Department in the 5100 block of Coban Street in a Valencia Park neighborhood.

The San Diego Sheriff's Department learned that the individuals suspected in the shooting were driving a BMW that was reported stolen on July 3.

911 dispatchers received reports that the suspects, who matched the description provided to authorities in Imperial Beach, fired shots at a home in the Valencia Park area. However, when officers arrived on the scene, the suspects were nowhere to be found.

The same suspects, who were described to authorities later, robbed a smoke shop in El Cajon at gunpoint, San Diego police said. The duo reportedly fired shots at an employee who attempted to stop them, but the employee was not injured.

Sometime between the shooting in Imperial Beach and the shooting in Valencia Park, the suspects stole another vehicle, according to SDPD.

Around 6:47 p.m., California Highway Patrol received reports of a crash on northbound Interstate 805 at Clairemont Mesa Boulevard that involved a car that matched a string of crimes.

Two suspects involved in the crash got out of a sedan and ran into the Clairemont area. San Diego police launched a helicopter to search for the suspects.

While the search was underway, the suspects carjacked a burgundy Nissan in the 6400 block of Convoy Court, according to San Diego police.

Authorities received reports of an unidentified black male and a white woman, both in their 20s, who were allegedly seen firing shots from the windows of the stolen Nissan.

Dispatchers with 911 received an alert from Encinitas about two suspects who carjacked a 2014 Ford Fusion, according to SDPD, who also said that the suspects matched the description of a multi-county crime spree.

Authorities responded to the scene and identified the suspects described in previous crimes in Imperial Beach, El Cajon, Clairemont, and Kearny Mesa and subsequently placed them under arrest, SDPD confirmed.

The suspects were arrested by San Diego Sheriff's Department and they were transported to the custody of San Diego police to be booked into the county jail.

Anyone with information about the crimes is asked to contact the San Diego Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
