SAN DIEGO — Friday was the second day of a second-degree murder trial for a woman accused of running over and killing her coworker after having drinks in Kearny Mesa.
San Diego police officers took the stand, describing the night Latisha Ingram allegedly ran over the man in a Bank of America parking lot. Police Body cam footage shown in court from the night of June 27, 2019 around 11:30 p.m. shows officers arresting 33-year-old Latisha Ingram.
Prosecutors say Ingram was out for dinner at Crab Hut on Convoy Street with co-workers in Kearny Mesa when they went for drinks afterwards. That's when her coworkers urged her to not drink and drive.
The prosecution says Ingram’s coworker, 25-year-old Ha Minh Ta, held onto Ingram’s Mercedes to get to her stop, but Ingram allegedly drove off and dragged him across the parking lot.
Police arrested Ingram shortly after. Ta died in the hospital.
Ingram is charged with second-degree murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and hit-and-run causing death.
Ingram’s attorney, Monique Carter, said Ingram had no idea her coworker held onto her car and is not guilty of murder.
Ingram says she returned to the scene.
Prosecutors say Ingram’s her blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit and she has a DUI from 2010 in Orange County.
Ingram faces life in prison if convicted of murder, while the the other charges only carry a sentence of three to 10 years in prison.
The trial resumes Monday morning with testimony from detectives and the medical examiner.
