Dangerous Intersections: 7 local intersections on most dangerous list

A recently released study shows that seven of the most dangerous intersections in California are in San Diego.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A recently released study shows that seven of the most dangerous intersections in California are in San Diego.

The study was conducted by the San Diego firm Estey & Bomberger.

The firm teamed up with data visualization company 1point21 Interactive, and analyzed over 435,000 collision records to find out which intersections in California were the most dangerous.

The study examined every motor vehicle crash recorded by the Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS) in 2015. Taking total crashes, injuries and fatalities into account, we identified and ranked all intersections with 10 or more accidents.

The study found that in 2015, there were 7,294 crashes, 7,478 injuries and 57 fatalities at the 444 intersections that were examined.

The 29th most dangerous intersection is at Wildcat Canyon Road and Old Barona, near the casino. According to deputies, 40,000 vehicles travel the road each day.

Palomar Airport Road and Paseo Del Norte in Carlsbad ranked 136th. In City Heights, at 54th and University Avenue ranked 202 for the most dangerous intersection with 11 crashes.

In the South Bay, Palm Avenue and Saturn Boulevard ranked 306th with ten crashes. In Spring Valley, the Jamacha and Sweetwater Road intersection was ranked 346th.

Rosecrans Road and Midway Drive ranked as the 399th most dangerous intersection with a reported 12 crashes.

The Pomerado and Scripps Poway intersection was ranked 440th with a reported 12 crashes. Deputies used a red light violation detection system to deter stop light runners.

The mayor has promised to fix over 1,000 miles of streets over five years.
