SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The Department of Fish and Game was called out to the Buckman Springs area Saturday after a dead mountain lion was spotted along Interstate 8.
Wildlife officer Lance Weihe tells News 8 the large cat was hit by some kind of vehicle, likely overnight.
He says incidents like these are not uncommon along this stretch of I-8.
"This is, like I said, the second one I've collected off the freeway this year off the 8. And I'm sure there's other ones that are collected as well by other wardens," he said.
The mountain lion's body was picked up from along the side of the freeway and taken away to be disposed off.
Wildlife officer Weihe says drivers should pay close attention for animals that may cross the highway, especially at night.
