SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Police are searching for a suspect who shot and injured a driver in a car-to-car shooting Sunday morning near La Presa.
The shooting happened around 1:30 a.m. on State Route 125 south of Spring Valley when a black Mercedes pulled up next to a sedan and opened fire. The victim, a 22-year-old Spring Valley man, was hospitalized following the shooting. The victim's 21-year-old female passenger who was riding in the front passenger seat was not injured.
California Highway Patrol officials say the victim and his passenger were driving southbound on SR-125 in a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu near Jamacha Road when the black Mercedes pulled up along the driver’s side of the Chevrolet. As they approached the SR-54 interchange, someone inside the Mercedes opened fire. The injured driver was able to veer onto SR-54 and exit the freeway at Woodman Street, according to CHP officials.
The driver was then transported by paramedics to Scripps Mercy Hospital. The suspects’ vehicle was last seen heading west on SR-54.
