VISTA (CNS) - A young man who allegedly made a brazen and violent attempt to kidnap a 7-year-old at her Solana Beach school last month was behind bars Thursday following his arrest in Orange County.

Jack Henry Doshay, 22, was taken into custody at a Laguna Niguel home about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Doshay lives in Fairbanks Ranch with his parents, San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore told reporters.

The suspect's father, Glenn Doshay, is a former investment manager, prominent local philanthropist and minority owner of the San Diego Padres.

On the afternoon of March 23, the suspect allegedly grabbed the Skyline Elementary School student, clapped a hand over her mouth, tried to put packing tape onto her face and attempted to carry her away. When she screamed and fought back, the would-be abductor let her go, ran to his nearby parked SUV and sped off.

Doshay was booked into county jail in Vista on suspicion of kidnapping, false imprisonment with violence and child cruelty. He was being held without bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Friday afternoon.

Detectives followed up on about 150 tips in the case before tracking down the suspect with information provided by his attorney, Paul Pfingst, the sheriff told reporters during a late-morning briefing. Officials declined to disclose the suspect's connection to the San Joaquin Hills-area neighborhood where he was arrested.

The victim's father, Mike Paeske, praised investigators for identifying and apprehending the man who allegedly tried to prey on his daughter.

"San Diego County families can sleep a little better knowing that one less threat is out there on the streets," he said during the news conference at sheriff's headquarters in Kearny Mesa.

Paeske also commended his child for how she reacted to the abduction attempt, saying the alleged perpetrator "messed with the wrong girl."

"She is our inspiration and our hero," Paeske said.
