Family displaced by Normal Heights house fire

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The Red Cross is helping a family find a place to spend the night after a fire ripped through their home in Normal Heights.

It happened around 4:15 p.m. Sunday in the 400 block of 35th Street.

San Diego Fire-Rescue sent some two-dozen firefighters to put out what turned out to be a difficult fire.

"Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and fire coming from a converted bungalow-style structure. One story in the front and a large two-story addition in the rear. That made it a very challenging fire for firefighters to be able to access," said Batt. Chief John Fisher.

However, firefighters were able to put out the flames in about 20 minutes.

No one was hurt.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
