SAN DIEGO (CBS 8/CNS) - An overnight fatal crash on southbound Interstate 15 near Carmel Mountain Road caused major traffic delays early Monday morning.
The man killed was identified Tuesday as 42-year-old Chi Ho Michael Lee died.
A smoking red SUV was spotted on its roof in the southbound lanes of Interstate 15 near Carmel Mountain Road shortly after 12:30 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. Lee's black Audi crashed into the SUV and he was killed after the collision.
The SUV's driver, 19-year-old San Diego woman Chloe Gordon, was placed under arrest and taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla to be treated for major injuries, according to the CHP.
Gordon is expected to face felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter charges.
Two other vehicles were struck by flying debris, but neither driver was injured, according to the CHP.
The wreck prompted authorities to shut down the southbound freeway and divert traffic onto the carpool lanes between Camino Del Norte and Carmel Valley Road, according to the CHP.
CHP officers said the rain played a part in this crash.
