SAN DIEGO — A motorcyclist using a bicycle lane to pass slower- moving traffic on a busy La Jolla street Tuesday was killed in a collision with an SUV, authorities reported.
The 32-year-old man was riding his 1999 Triumph to the north alongside a sidewalk in the 8700 block of Gilman Drive when a 2004 Toyota Highlander turned into a driveway directly in his path shortly before 8 a.m., according to San Diego police.
Medics took him to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, where he was pronounced dead, Sgt. Michael Stirk said.
No other injuries were reported.
The deceased man's name was withheld pending family notification.
