SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A former Navy Seal who pleaded guilty to running an investment scam told a judge Tuesday that he wants to withdraw that plea.
Jason Mullaney pleaded guilty last month to stealing more than $1 million from 11 former and current Navy Seals and a family friend.
In court Tuesday, the judge told Mullaney that an attorney will be appointed to look into whether the guilty plea can be withdrawn.
Prosecutors say this is just another way for Mullaney to manipulate the victims.
"The defendant is having buyer's remorse about his change of plea,” said Deputy District Attorney, Hector Jimenez. "During the taking of the guilty plea, Judge Maguire specifically explained to the defendant he couldn't take it back and he agreed."
Mullaney will be back in court on November 3.
