SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - For the first time in nearly 20 years, Country superstar Garth Brooks is in San Diego. He and his wife Trisha Yearwood played the first of five shows at the Valley View Casino Center Thursday night.
Brooks took a decade off touring to be with family.
"When we are home it's very much coffee and a book in the morning. He likes to get on a tractor and push a tree down. It's a nice balance cause out here is a dream," said Yearwood.
Brooks is breaking concert ticket sales records. In San Diego he only planned two shows, but when tickets went on sale, the site crashed due to high demand, leading him to schedule five shows.
"It's all about the music. It's all about the people. They will bring their own energy," said Brooks.

Megan Nazaroff was born in 1994, the same year as one of Brooks' daughters and the same year he released "In Pieces."
"I've wanted to see him since I was six-years-old. Everything has been Garth life. He is great," said Megan, a Garth Brooks fan.
Brooks said it amazes him to see young people like Megan who know every word to his songs.
"I don't know why they do, but I am just thankful that they do," he said.
Brooks resumed touring last year after a 13-year hiatus. He last performed in San Diego in June 1996.
