Fire officials unveiled a new, innovative way to reduce the danger of wildfires in the East County Saturday.
The first-ever Running of the Goats took place in Crest. Some 250 goats were introduced into a 150-acre area to help manage vegetation.
Fire officials said it is a practical way to reduce wildfire fuel.
The project is funded through a grant from the U.S. Forest Service and is the largest project of its kind in the state.
