SAN DIEGO — Thousands of passengers aboard Disney’s Wonder cruise ship are in San Diego, a day earlier than planned.
The ship arrived to the Port of San Diego around 7 a.m. Thursday morning, following the company’s decision to suspend all cruises amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Two-thousand passengers, along with 900 crew members are on board. The Disney Wonder is back from a two-week journey along the Panama Canal. It left New Orleans on March 6.
The ship was supposed to arrive in San Diego Friday, but because Disney has decided to suspend cruises, it arrived early.
Disney officials said no one on board has shown any signs of COVID-19.
A local chaplain - who helps crew members run errands or get the supplies they need once they’re off - told News 8 it’s a service he provides year-round, However, it's much different these days.
Regarding the crew members, Chaplain Henry Amarila said, “They’re concerned. They just ask me to remember them in their prayers and that of course, they’re also praying that this problem will soon to be done.”
On social media, one passenger talked about how the crew members are constantly cleaning and sanitizing the ship, as well as keeping them informed.
Disney is giving passengers the option to stay on board Thursday night since it’s here a day early and they may not have a place to stay.
However, if a passenger chooses to get off, they can’t get back on. Meanwhile, the crew has to stay on board.
