SAN DIEGO — At 2:30 p.m. on Monday, San Diego County gave a COVID-19 update. You can watch the entire update here.
Chairman Greg Cox said that while the weather may be warming up, it’s still vital that everyone wear a face covering, wash their hands, and social distance.
“This rate going up to 7% is very concerning,” said Cox in reference to Sunday's report. “We’re not alone.”
“This virus is very stubborn,” Cox added.
Supervisor Nathan Fletcher announced there have been 10 community outbreaks countywide in the last seven days.
“These are concerning numbers,” said Fletcher.
Fletcher said ICU visits and hospitalizations are still under control, but closely monitored by the county.
“The dangers from coronavirus are real,” said Fletcher.
Out of the 280,773 COVID-19 tests that have been conducted total countywide, 5,831 people were tested for COVID-19 on June 21.
There have been 11,096 total cases of COVID-19 countywide, with 5% of Sunday’s tests coming back positive.
According to Dr. Wilma Wooten, 338 people have died from COVID-19 in San Diego County.
“We expect that we will have new cases with reopening,” said Wooten.
If there’s a commonality in a certain type of business where they’re seeing cases, Wooten said the county will implement more specific education.
Wooten said she has no idea when Legoland and large places will reopen since that depends on guidance from the state.
“We are clearly in the first wave,” said Wooten in response to Governor Newsom’s earlier briefing on Monday.
There’s been an increase in cases in people under 40 and a small decrease for cases in senior citizens, according to Dr. Eric McDonald.
The county launched an interactive website early last week that allows residents to find free COVID-19 testing locations near them. The website can be found at 211sandiego.org.
