SANTEE, Calif. — The Grossmont Union High School District is warning students and parents about fake screenshots saying students from local schools have been infected with the Coronavirus.
These "hoax headlines" are just that - not true. This is the fake post:
Students we with spoke with at West Hills High describe the picture as "irresponsible." The picture is of a fake Union Tribune article that was being circulated among students.
"My initial thought was like 'maybe', but then 'no' because the school would send out something if it was at the school," said a senior at West Hills High.
A spokesperson for the Grossmont Union High School District says there is no validity to the claim.
Students don't think this is funny at all.
"People are gullible, so putting stuff out there, like, this isn't ok," added a junior at WHH.
Another fake screenshot is circulating around Grossmont High School.
The death toll from the Coronavirus outbreak has risen to 170 in China. There are six confirmed cases in the U.S. The World Health Organization has declared the Coronvirus outbreak a global health emergency.
"It's kind of aggravating because it's a real disease that's actually affecting people," said a senior at WHH.
