Expert shares tips for men to consider as they age

Clean diet, exercise and sleep are preventative measure men can take to stay healthy

SAN DIEGO — As men get older, health becomes at the top of their minds. 

Following President Joe Biden's decision to not seek reelection, older men who may see themselves in Biden could grow concerned about their health. 

CBS 8 spoke to Evan Miller, founder of Gameday Men's Health about what men can do to stay healthy as they age. 

“There comes a time in every man's life where he looks in the mirror and says I just don’t feel right,” said Miller. 

He explained what signs men should look out for as they get older. 

"Certainly by 40 and 50 on men are noticing these signs of I’m not where I once was. The biggest symptoms we notice from men at gameday are lack of energy, number 2 is sleep. Many times men come in and go ‘my sleep is horrible,” said Miller. 

Miller said often those symptoms have to do with testosterone levels and to contact a doctor or clinics like Gameday for treatment. But the real key to staying healthy is to start taking preventative measures. 

“We’re the most likely to miss appointments, most likely to end up in the ER, least likely to take care of ourselves," said Miller. 

Even though men might not be the most compliant patients, there are three simple measures patients can take. He recommends a healthy diet, a lot of exercise, and more sleep. With the most important being a clean diet.

“Stay on the outer edge of the grocery store, when you're doing your shopping,” said Miller. 

He also encourages men not to put off your yearly physicals. 

“By the time you’re 30 as a guy just go get your labs done. Do a full panel and that will be your baseline," said Miller. 

By establishing that baseline you can give your doctor a full idea of your body, and things to look out for as you get older, so you can live a healthy life.

“Making sure you're on top of your health is key, that preventative stuff really does matter before it is too late," said Miller.
