SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - One local veterinary hospital is organizing an annual holiday pet food drive to help keep pets fed, and in the care of their owners.
Many families are forced to give up their beloved pets to shelters around this time of year because they can't afford to feed them and care for them and too often that leads to euthanization.
So the Veterinary Specialty Hospital is doing something about it. It is holding its 3rd annual holiday pet food drive at its two locations -- Sorrento Valley and San Marcos.
All dog and cat food will be donated to the San Diego Food Bank to be distributed within the community to benefit local pet owners.
Last year the drive raised 2,500 pounds of pet food, this year the goal is to raise 3,000 pounds.
Donations can be dropped off in the lobby of the two veterinary specialty hospital locations. Donations will be collected through Friday, Jan. 3, 2014.
