SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Higher-than-average tides along the San Diego County coastline may cause minor flooding in low-lying areas like beach parking lots and nearby streets Thursday.
A National Weather Service coastal flood advisory is scheduled to remain in effect until 9 p.m. Thursday. High tides of about 7 feet are expected at 10:40 a.m. Thursday and 11:20 Friday.
The so-called "spring tides," caused when the sun and the moon line up, are expected to combine with surf of 3 to 5 feet and sets of 6 feet on Thursday to further increase the potential for flooding, according to the weather service.

"A combination of very high tides and elevated surf will continue to produce local tidal overflow and minor flooding in low-lying coastal areas during morning high tides," forecasters said.
Beaches in Oceanside, Cardiff-by-the-Sea, La Jolla and Imperial Beach could be susceptible to minor tidal overflows and flooding of such low-lying areas as beach parking lots and adjacent streets.
Strong rip currents are also expected, according to the NWS.
Forecasters said the tides and surf would lessen on Friday.
