SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Commencement ceremonies will begin Saturday for more than 1,800 students at the University of San Diego.
The first day will be for nearly 500 graduate students, who will receive advanced degrees in a 1 p.m. ceremony at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. Carolyn Woo, president and CEO of Catholic Relief Services, will deliver the commencement address.
Sunday, 723 students will be awarded bachelor's degrees from the College of Arts and Sciences. Bill Drayton, a pioneer in social entrepreneurism and the founder and CEO of Ashoka: Innovators for the Public, will address the graduates and receive an honorary degree.
Also, 638 business and engineering students will graduate. They will hear from Albert Carey, CEO of PepsiCo Americas Beverages.
The law school graduated 363 students earlier this month.
"We are proud to honor our graduates, knowing that they have acquired the knowledge, skills and ethics to be leaders and changemakers in their chosen professions," said USD President Mary Lyons.
The class includes 15 graduates from a program that prepares under-represented and first-generation college students for doctorate programs and careers in higher education; 17 who were selected for Teach for America, the Peace Corps, the Jesuit Volunteer Corps and other service organizations; and 15 newly commissioned Navy and Marine officers, according to USD.
