An off-duty immigrations and customs enforcement agent is forced to open fire on an intruder in his own home.
The shooting occurred Sunday morning at the agent's house on Palm Avenue in Otay Mesa.
According to San Diego police, the ICE agent was asleep when a robber, armed with a hammer and a sharp object, broke in and demanded his truck keys.
The agent identified himself as a peace officer and opened fire after the suspect raised the hammer again.
The wounded suspect ran away and was arrested a few blocks away.
His injuries are not said to be life-threatening.
