Man who drowned in Oceanside harbor identified by family

The 31-year-old was reported missing by his family after he went swimming, according to police. A cousin identified him as Jose Julian Girón Alvarez.

SAN DIEGO — A man visiting Oceanside with his family drowned Sunday, according to the Oceanside Police Department.

The 31-year-old man from Victorville was reported missing by his family after he went swimming and had not returned for several hours, according to police.

The man was eventually found floating unconscious near the Oceanside harbor about a half-mile north of where he was last seen, OPD Sgt. Ronnie Harper said.

Despite efforts from first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A cousin of the victim identified him to News 8 as Jose Julian Girón Alvarez and shared the picture below saying their family is devastated by the loss:
