LA JOLLA (CBS 8) - Is the Geezer Bandit back? The FBI is investigating a bank robbery at the Wells Fargo inside a Vons grocery store Friday night, pulled off by an elderly man that resembled the infamous bank robber.
The robber entered the store at about 6:35 p.m., approached the teller, and made a verbal demand for cash.
Witnesses say the man appeared to be approximately 70 years old, about 6'1" tall, wearing a light gray suit and eyeglasses, and was armed with a handgun.
"The suspect pointed a revolver at the teller and threatened him with the use of that weapon," said FBI Special Agent Darrell Foxworth. "(The teller) complied with the robber's demands."
He was last seen heading east away from the grocery store. It's unclear whether he got into a getaway car or walked off after the hold-up.
Investigators are trying to determine if the infamous "Geezer Bandit" is behind Friday's robbery. The Geezer Bandit has already carried out 14 bank hits throughout California, including ten in San Diego County. His latest robbery was at a bank in Morro Bay on May 27.
