SAN DIEGO (CNS) - La Jolla Shores ranked 11th in the top 25 U.S. attractions with the highest increase in traveler interest this summer, according to a study issued today by TripAdvisor.com.
The Attractions Trend Index includes parks, city districts and tourist sites that have seen user search activity increase the most in May through July, compared to the same period last year, according to the website.
"From historic city streets to amazing sights from great heights, the Attractions Trend Index has revealed a wide variety of places that have captured the interest of U.S. travelers," said Brooke Ferencsik, senior director of communications for TripAdvisor. "Travelers looking to take advantage of the remaining weeks of summer and shoulder season still have plenty of time to book a special trip and explore some these American attractions growing in popularity."
Searches for La Jolla Shores, which offers a popular beach and park, jumped nearly 89 percent, according to the website.
The index was topped by the observatory atop the new World Trade Center in New York, with web traffic up almost 341 percent over last year. The top five was rounded out by the Magnificent Mile in Chicago, up 118 percent; the Gatlinburg Scenic Overlook in Tennessee, up 112.5 percent; the Pearl District in Portland, 109.3 percent higher; and Mount Bonnell in Austin, Texas, 109.2 percent.
In California, the Venice Canals Walkway in Los Angeles was 13th, Pier 39 in San Francisco was 15th, the Gondola at Heavenly in South Lake Tahoe was 19th and the Warner Bros. studio tour in Burbank was 25th.
