SAN DIEGO (NEWS 8) - The Larry Himmel Neighborhood Foundation joined Interfaith Community Services for the 3rd Annual Christmas presentation with Santa.
The foundation was able to provide Interfaith with toys for children from Santa on Christmas Day.
"The Larry Himmel Neighborhood Foundation has been doing this for Interfaith for three years now and a lot of children who would not normally get holiday gifts are going to be receiving presents," Fiona King, Interfaith Community Services said.
Kids big and small were delighted and filled with joy as presents were unwrapped, from blocks to bikes.
“There are some youth that are really facing adversity, they come up and write letters to Santa and then on Christmas day Santa comes and presents them with the gift. It’s really an incredible thing and probably the most fun thing we do all year,” Miles Himmel said.
The surprised looks were abundant when the children discovered what was inside all of those boxes was exactly what they hoped Santa would bring them.
“Oh my goodness, this is all I wished for” is what one child said as he ripped open his Christmas present from Santa.
Larry Himmel, a long-time member of the KFMB family, was a gifted humorist and storyteller who had a special connection with the San Diego community. Larry loved everyone and everyone loved Larry! Larry may have summarized his legacy best when he said, “My purpose is to make people feel better about the place they call home.”
In life, Larry had a enormous impact on the people throughout our community. In his memory, the Larry Himmel Neighborhood Foundation has allowed Larry’s impact to grow even stronger. The foundation provides for the people of San Diego, organizations large and small, as well as individuals in need.
