LEMON GROVE, Calif. — A homicide investigation got underway Wednesday night in Lemon Grove.
Sheriff's deputies received multiple calls from people living in the 2200 block of Dain Court around 10:55 p.m. of gunshots in the area, said Lt. Mike Krough.
When deputies arrived on scene, they found a 23-year-old man lying on the street with a gunshot wound.
Medics performed CPR, but the victim died on scene, said Krough.
No arrests have been made.
Alec Shiller lives nearby and says shootings in his community are rare.
"Last night around 10:57 I heard loud bangs. I said, 'Oh my goodness' because there was a shooting here around the 4th of July where three people were injured."
Shiller describes the horrific crime scene after he heard gunshots.
"I saw a guy run to the car sitting right there. He jumped in and drove off. I called 9-1-1 and a few minutes later a lot of police came. Right here, there was a whole bunch of blood. There was a pile of blood there because the body was there. His shoes were here. There were markings and bullet casings here, here, here and there."
The San Diego Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information about the deadly shooting to call the homicide office or the sheriff's non-emergency line.
