16-year-old girl escapes would-be kidnapper in Coronado

Coronado Police say the girl ran away after the man demanded she get in his car and grabbed her arm.

A man is under arrest on suspicion of trying to kidnap a 16-year-old girl near the Coronado Public Library, according to Coronado Police.

In a statement posted to Instagram Friday evening, police say 45-year-old Nan Wang of Trona, California approached the girl at about 1:30 p.m. Friday as she was waiting for a bus in the library's park area.

Wang allegedly demanded the girl get into his car, then grabbed her arm when she refused.

Police say the girl was able to escape, run away to safety, and call 911.

The girl gave dispatchers a description of the suspect and the vehicle's license plate.

Officers spotted Wang in his car about a block away and took him into custody.

Wang has been booked into San Diego Central Jail on charges of attempted kidnapping and annoying or molesting a child under the age of 18.

Wang is being held on $100,000 bail and is due to appear in court on Wednesday, October 2.
