17-year-old dead after being hit by train in Sorrento Valley

The San Diego Sheriff's Department responded to the scene in the area of Sorrento Valley Road on Friday afternoon.

A 17-year-old is dead after being hit by a train. San Diego Police Lieutenant Jake Resch said police were called before 1 p.m. Friday to a fatality at the Sorrento Valley Boulevard grade crossing.

San Diego County Sheriff's Transit Enforcement Unit investigates incidents along the routes of the North County Transit District District which Amtrak uses. 

The collision happened at approximately 12:34 pm. When San Diego Police and Fire arrived, they found a male bicyclist who had been hit by a southbound Amtrak train. The male did not survive his injuries.

The Medical Examiner's Office will make a positive identification of the male and also determine the cause and manner of death, pending notification of his family.

The Pacific Surfliner train is experiencing delays Friday afternoon due to police activity.

All services operating in the San Diego (OLT) area were experiencing lengthy delays throughout Friday afternoon, according to a Pacific Surfliner

According to a post on Pacific Surfliner's account on X, as of 6:23 pm PT, all service operating in the San Diego area had been restored with residual delays incurred.
