HARBISON CANYON, Calif — A search is underway to find the gunman who killed two people at a house party hosted at an Airbnb property in unincorporated El Cajon on April 27.
San Diego Sheriff's Department was called to the 800 block of Renfro Way in Harbison Canyon just before 2 a.m. following reports that a shooting had occurred.
"The reporting party indicated they heard 8 to 10 gunshots and yelling from a house party," according to Lieutenant Joseph Jarjura with the San Diego Sheriff's Department.
Shortly after the first 9-1-1 call, dispatchers received a second call from a person who said someone had been shot at the party.
Deputies arrived and saw "numerous individuals" leaving the area on foot and in vehicles. When deputies entered the home, they found a man, later identified only as a 20-year-old man, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The 20-year-old victim was immediately rendered medical aid and airlifted to Sharp Memorial Hospital but was later pronounced dead at 4:02 a.m. due to the gunshot wounds.
Authorities searched the rest of the property and found another man in the home suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite rendering medical aid, the man remained unresponsive and was pronounced dead at 2:45 a.m. inside the home, according to deputies.
San Diego Sheriff's identified the 20-year-old victim who died at an area hospital as Jaden Davis, a resident of San Diego.
The previously unidentified man who was found dead in the home was identified as 29-year-old Seandell Jones.
"The manner of death for both victims is homicide, and the cause of death is gunshot wounds," San Diego Sheriff's Department said.
Deputies said they don't know the nature of the relationship between the victims, and any potential suspect is unclear.
The motive behind the shooting is also undetermined.
One neighbor told CBS 8 that the tragedy could have been prevented. He said he called the sheriff's office at around 10 p.m. because he was concerned about how many people were at the property. He believes more than 200 people attended the party.
According to him, dispatchers told him they would send a deputy out, but he says, they never showed.
He called them again at around midnight because he feared someone might get into a wreck since it was dark and the house is located on a hill. He also says he saw many people under the influence. Even then, no officers showed up.
They ultimately arrived after the shooting.
"It made me feel sad and frustrated because I think that the situation could have been prevented if they would’ve shown up when I called," said the neighbor, who didn't want to be identified.
CBS 8 learned the home where the party was held was also listed on Airbnb.
San Diego Sheriff's Department Lieutenant Joseph Jarjura confirmed the home where the shooting occurred was rented through Airbnb, and neither victim was a resident of the home.
Airbnb lists the home as a "private mountain estate" with a luxury pool and spa.
The listing said more than 16 people could comfortably occupy the home for about $889 a night.
The party was also advertised on social media.
A flyer online showed tickets going for $25.
Admission tickets to the party were even sold on the campus of Education First International Language Centers in Liberty Station.
In a statement, the school said the party was not affiliated with the school but did confirm that some of its students did attend.
The statement goes on to say, “We have strong policies in place to guide appropriate student behavior, and we will initiate disciplinary measures where appropriate.”
