AKRON -- A 21-year-old man is dead following a late-night shooting inside a pizza shop.

Authorities say it happened at New York Style Pizza in the 300 block of E. Glenwood Avenue shortly before 11 p.m. Monday.

The masked suspect entered the pizza shop armed with a handgun and demanded money. After the clerk handed over some cash, the suspect opened fire and shot the clerk before fleeing the scene.

The clerk, identified as Zakareia Husein of Springfield Township, later died at Akron City Hospital. He had been shot in the torso, according to the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office.

Akron Police released surveillance video Tuesday morning that show the robbery taking place before the deadly shooting.

Police also say the suspect may have been involved in a pair of armed robberies that occurred Saturday night.

The robberies took place at two Family Dollar locations, at 1156 E. Tallmadge Ave. and 1750 S. Main Street. The suspects pistol-whipped employees and took money from the registers. As a suspect pistol-whipped an employee at the S. Main Street location, a shot was fired, though no one was hit.

Though the suspects are described as black males, ages 16-25 years old wearing all black and ski masks, police say one suspect may be a female.

Anybody with information is asked to call the Akron Police Detective Bureau at 330-375-2490. The suspect should be considered armed and dangerous, police warn.
