CHICAGO (CNN) - A Pacific white-sided dolphin gave birth to her first calf at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago Monday morning.
The 28-year-old dolphin went through a three hour labor, after a one year pregnancy.
After the birth, both mom and baby swam to the surface together for the calf’s first breath. The baby was estimated to weigh 25 pounds at about three feet long.
The public will not be able to view the mother and calf, while the two bond. They will also be under 24 hour observation for several months.
