SAN MARCOS, Calif. — San Diego County Sheriff's deputies have arrested a man suspected of fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run crash in San Marcos that seriously injured a teenager riding an e-bike.
Authorities arrested Alan Reyes, 23, on Monday after he surrendered to officers at San Marcos Sheriff’s Station. Reyes was transported to Vista Dentention Facility and faces felony hit and run and reckless driving charges.
On Sept. 17, a teenager riding an e-bike sustained major injuries in the collision near the intersection of W. Mission Road and Knoll Road. The teenager remains hospitalized in critical condition, the sheriff’s office said.
According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, officers acted on an anonymous tip and served a search warrant at a home in the 500 block of Rancheros Drive on Sept. 19.
Officers searched the property and discovered a 2021 white GMC Sierra truck believed to be involved in the crash.
According to the sheriff’s office, visible damage matched the debris left behind at the scene of the crash. Authorities said attempts to conceal the damage were also visible on the pickup truck.
Officers impounded the truck and obtained additional evidence at the home. The investigation remains ongoing.
Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or captured it on a dash camera is asked to call the San Marcos Sheriff's Station at (760) 510-5200.
