Looking for a parking spot near your favorite Convoy restaurant? It might be difficult

The Convoy District is partnering with the city to create a community parking district to come up with a way to make parking convenient for customers.

SAN DIEGO — “Changes to parking in the Convoy District. No parking in bike lanes,” is what signs along Convoy Street read.

“I guess it's safer for people who ride bikes, maybe they'll ride their bikes more” Convoy District Customer Seth Cason said.

The bike lanes replaced the street parking that was available for patrons visiting the businesses nearby. They now give bicyclists their own space at a distance from cars driving by.

“If you can't find parking what are you supposed to do? Wait half an hour? An hour?” Convoy District Customer Sam Elhomsy said.

On Friday night, chaos endured as people drove around Convoy looking for a parking spot during the dinner rush hours.

“I mean if it gets worse, I'm probably gonna try to stay away from here more now to be honest with you,” Elhomsy said.

Additional parking has been added on several streets off Convoy including Opportunity Road and Dagget Street. For customers who want to park close by, they’ll have to be patient until a spot becomes available.

Jessie Foyer rushed from her job to grab a bite to eat with family but it took her a couple minutes to find a place to park before she could meet with them.

“It's going to take me a minute, my cousin actually is also looking for parking right now, my sister just walked in and she's trying to get us a spot,” Foyer said.
