SAN DIEGO — It was about a year and a half ago when the Bridge to Home program was announced by Mayor Gloria.
The Bridge to Home Program website said the project is designed to provide, "gap financing to qualified developers to make affordable housing projects a reality to create homes for families and individuals who can’t afford market-rate housing — including many who are at risk or currently experiencing homelessness."
The new Iris property broke ground in San Ysidro on Thursday, and with the new development, there will be 100 total units.
There are 27 one-bedroom units, 32 two-bedroom units and 36 3-bedroom units.
That’s for people making 25, 30, 50, and up to 60 percent of the area's median income.
15 of those homes will be reserved for those experiencing homelessness and those at risk of being homeless.
There will be wrap-around services for those living there as well. In total, the City of San Diego funded five million dollars to get the Iris Project started.
According to Mayor Gloria, the city’s Bridge to Home Project has funded 60 million dollars worth of other projects in several communities.
This project is expected to be completed by the Summer of 2025.
