SAN DIEGO (AP) - Former U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa says he has garnered enough votes to advance to a runoff in November for a House seat vacated by convicted Republican Rep. Duncan Hunter.
It's not clear how many votes remain to be counted in the Republican-leaning district east of San Diego. But Issa's main opponent, San Diego political commentator Carl Demaio, conceded Tuesday.
California candidates from all parties run in a single primary and the top two vote-getters advance.
Democrat Ammar Campa-Najjar won the the March 3 primary.
Two years ago, Issa gave up his seat in a neighboring district that has become more Democratic. Hunter pleaded guilty to misspending campaign funds.
